Breeding is so much more than just putting two dogs together. When I work to breed a litter, I have you, the owner in mind, not just the pups. It has to work for you; the dog has to be a positive in your life.
Breed a Healthy Dog
No matter how wonderful a dog is, high vet bills really put a damper on owning a dog. It’s not just the added financial burden, but the emotional burden that goes with it. It’s painful to watch your dog in pain, unable to enjoy the life you hoped for them. This is why we use all available resources to test our dogs, making sure they are clear on structural issues, such as hips and elbows, as well as cardiac, and known genetic defects (through DNA swabs). This way you can rest easy knowing your dog will be as healthy as we can breed for.
Select the Right Temperaments
The Labrador is the American Family Dog. An icon of history. It’s not the shedding that people love, it’s their temperament, their loyalty, and desire to be with their family. Whether it’s a day on the boat, retrieving a frisbee from the water, a hunting trip with the guys, or just every day life with the family, doing homework, sneaking vegetables under the table, and evening walks. This is a Labrador, it’s the temperament. We know how important that is and that’s why we temperament test and evaluate all of our breeding dogs and puppies, so you can have that perfect American Dog.

Giving Our Breeders the Good Life
Breeding dogs, beyond their genetics, set the stage for a happy, healthy puppy. Our breeding dogs needs are met not just with high-quality dog food, but they’re emotionally happy. They get to run around our 100 acres of land, enjoy the lake, and often more than their fair share of the couch. We’ve found that by meeting their needs and giving them a quality life, they provide their puppies with that as well, showing them that people are awesome and great to spend time with.
Raise Healthy Puppies
Puppies are loads of fun, but also loads of work (they never stop eating!). It’s important for us that our puppies get a great start. Of course we know all about the boring stuff, like vaccinations and deworming, and proper nutrition, but it’s more than just being healthy. It also includes showing the pups that people are trustworthy. We do this through planned and casual interactions with our pups, making sure to give them some puppy love each day so they learn to bond with us humans. We have mastered our puppy pen and have all sorts of play activities like the swing, puppy jungle (a ton of suspended toys to play with and experience), as well as setting them up with a litter box to help them learn proper manners.
When available, we love taking our pups in for puppy yoga, let us know if you’d like to attend!
